Why Can't I Think Of Them?

I want a coupe.

But I can't think of to many of them. I want to buy new. I just like the security of knowing that when something breaks that I don't have the know-how to fix, I can take it in under warranty. But looking for current models of 2-door coupes, I can't think of to many of them. The FRS/BRZ is my first choice. I love it. I also thought about a Hyundai Genesis. Hell, the Veloster Turbo doesn't look that bad either. My question to you, fello opponaut, is what other 2 door coupes are there and what's the difference between them. Anyone have any personal experience and can shed some light on them? I'm not looking to buy for a couple of years, but I'd like to get my homework done.

Care less about a warranty, more about depreciation and repair cost.

Can also get the pony cars and the GTI as a 2-door. On the more expensive side there is the cayman, z4, a5, TT, 2/4 series. I'm sure I'm missing some as well.

The ATS. It's so hot right now.

I test drove the BRZ before I bought my WRX. I found that it was slightly underpowered than expected and compared to the WRX. Other than that, I thought it was a very fun little car. Not sure if it's in your price range but the BMW 1/2 series is worth a look

Do not choose is right. I thought the Altima coupe was done? I love the way it looks but I don't think I would car for the driving.

Mustang

Challenger

Camaro

Kia Forte

Miata (retractable hardtop)

Scion tC

Honda Civic Coupe (Si available)

That's just off the top of my head and I've kept the list to cars that aren't crazy expensive. If you want to go up in price you can start looking at things like Corvettes, Vipers, F-Series Jag etc.

Personally, if you're liking the FRS, about the only car I'd recomment out of the list to really look at is the upcoming Mustang Ecoboost. The pricing is going to be somewhat similar and I think the ecoboost is probably going to outperform the FRS/BRZ by a decent margin.

This guy. I think leases are ideal for coupes.

Yea, it finished production in 2013 but I still see some brand new ones sitting on lots (for good reason).

I never even thought about the 1 Series. I love the 1 Series. What's the pricing like on them?

I'd love a TT. More specifically a TTRS but I have nowhere near that type of money.

Are the Audi 4/5's all that expensive? I guess I should have mentioned this but it'd be coming from a Military paycheck. So not too high end.

Depends. How old are you, how do you plan to drive it, how long do you want to own it for, and what is your budget?

I've been DDing a 350Z since it was brand new in 2006. I realize it's not still a new car, but I think the 370Z probably shares a lot of the pros and cons.

Pros:

-Powerful enough engine to feel quick under most circumstances.

-Good enough handling to feel like the car handles well on just about any real world road you'd drive on.

-Hoons like a champ

-Swoopy looks

-Probably a lot cheaper than you think if you go for a downmarket model

-Downmarket models are mechanically very similar to upmarket models

-Always feels like you're driving a sports car, not a sporty coupe

Cons:

-Sports car ride

-Loud interior (i think the 370Z is better as far as interior goes, but it's still not great)

-Strict 2-seater

-Not in that super upper echelon of "magical" handling cars. It aint no S2000/Boxster/Miata

-Not as fast as a V8 Mustang.

From a performance car stand point, the Z is a bit of a "jack of all trades, master of none." But it's also very much a performance car with all of the shortcomings that are typically associated with that.

26. Daily Drive with a little fun time thrown in. Plan to own it as long as it runs. Mid $20K to mid $30K.

You want a used car that's nearing its lowest depreciation at around $15k, that you can work on yourself, and has a large, cheap aftermarket. Whatever you would lose by not having a warranty you will definitely gain back in depreciation. Expect to pay ~$10k on total repairs over the course of its life, and resell for at least 80% of its purchase price. At 26, insurance won't kill you so no need to get a 'stealth' coupe like an RX8 or any of the FWD coupes.

Examples: 2005-2009 Mustang GT, 2000s Porsche Boxster, Porsche 993, 968, 928 S4, 350Z, G35, Last-gen MR2, C5 Corvette.

I definitely thought of the G35. Anything special about them or specific models I should look out for?

Watch out for ones that have been abused their entire life, and early years tend to have transmission issues. Go on infiniti/nissan forums (NICO is great) for more technical stuff. Model-wise, they're all about the same, though I think some have electronic LSDs.

Counter point: ST twins are pretty good looking, and very fun AND practical.

I'm assuming you're talking FoST and FiST. Honestly haven't really found them all the good looking. I agree that they are fun and practical. I've got a buddy who has a FoST and it's fantastic. I just don't really like the look of them.

Have you seen a FiST in person? I personally like the look better than the FoST, but I'm pretty biased so...

Sorry, its now the 2 series! They start around $35K and go up from there. I think the M235 is around $50K
